PGSI Introduction
PGSI is a recreational small-sided soccer league offered at Driskell and Melrose Parks in Hyattsville. These parks are adjacent to each other. All games are in the same location in Hyattsville on Saturday mornings. This format is easy on busy families.
What is small sided soccer? Small sided soccer is endorsed by the US Youth Soccer Association as THE way for kids to learn soccer. Play is on small fields using small teams. The team size and the field size increase with age.
Why small sided soccer? Kids have more interaction with the ball, make more decisions on the field, have more chances to score goals, have to play offense and defense and ... HAVE MORE FUN! Here is more information on the benefits of small sided soccer from USYSA.
Below is a brief overview of the divisions in the PGSI league. Teams are formed based on the US Soccer Age Matrix. All divisions are co-ed. Scores are not recorded and standings are not kept.
PGSI is affiliated with the Maryland State Youth Soccer Association, an affiliate of the United States Youth Soccer Association. All registered players have MSYSA insurance. All coaches in PGSI must pass background checks through the National Center for Safety Initiatives.
